CASTING
Casting
A-Squared Engineered Products. The source of growth for your business.
Casting is a service offered by A-Squared Engineered Products, it is the process of distributing molten metal into a mold, where it solidifies into the shape of the mold. The metal and mold are cooled, and the metal casting is separated from the mold. Casting is extensively practical in producing complex shapes that would be challenging or inefficient to produce by other methods. Casting processes differ in how the mold is made and in how the metal is forced into the mold.

Gravity Casting
Gravity casting is a service offered by A-Squared Engineered
Products. It requires the pouring of molten metal from a crucible into a mold under only the force of gravity, without the use of pressurized gases, vacuums. Sand molds are commonly use in this process because they are generally easy to shape, do not break down when suddenly exposed to high temperatures, do not deform easily and are widely available.
Aluminum Permanent Mold Castings
Permanent mold casting is a service offered by A-Squared
Engineered Products. It is a metal casting process that utilizes
reusable molds. Permanent mold casting is normally used in
high-volume production of metal parts.
Non-ferrous metals are typically used in this process, such as
zinc, aluminum, magnesium, and copper alloys (brass alloys).
However, irons and steels can also be cast in this method using
graphite molds.
Die Castings
Die casting is a service offered by A-Squared Engineered
Products. It is a metal casting process that is characterized by
forcing molten metal under high pressure into a mold cavity. The
mold cavity is created using two hardened tool steel dies which
have been machined into shape and work similarly to an injection
mold during the process. Most die castings are made from non-
ferrous metals, specifically zinc, copper, aluminum, magnesium,
lead, pewter, and tin-based alloys. Depending on the type of
metal being cast, a hot- or cold-chamber machine is used.
Graphite Permanent Mold Casting
Graphite mold casting is a service offered by A-Squared
Engineered Products. It has become the preferred choice in
industrial applications for its flexibility. It can be applied to a wide
range of quantities while delivering close tolerances for the most
complex parts.
The graphite permanent mold casting process begins with
pneumatically clamping two graphite blocks in a press. Molten
metal is poured into a sprue or pouring basin at the top of the
mold. Once the metal has solidified, the graphite molds are
separated, and the castings are removed.
Zinc Aluminum Graphite Permanent Mold
Zinc Aluminum Graphite Permanent Mold is a service offered by
A-Squared Engineered Products. It was first introduced for gravity casting, the ZA-12 zinc-aluminum alloy demonstrates superior strength and hardness and displays good wear resistant properties in comparison to other non-ferrous alloys. Plus, ZA-12 is non-sparking, meaning your parts can be utilized in the most hazardous conditions, including underground. The accuracy and exceptional surface finish of parts casted in graphite molds virtually eliminate additional finishing steps with other casting techniques such as sand casting and die casting.
